Read it from the automobilemag site “In typical Porsche fashion, the updated 911s are being rolled out in batches. We’ve already driven the coupe and convertible versions of the Carrera and Carrera S; now there are four more models, all with four driven wheels. The big news for the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S coupes and convertibles is a new-to-Carrera all-wheel-drive system that’s been nicked from the 911 Turbo, called Porsche Traction Management. The electronically controlled system replaces a viscous multi-plate clutch. Engines and transmission choices mirror those found on the non-4 Carreras. Both engines now feature direct injection, which adds power while increasing fuel economy. The Carrera 4 gets a new 3.6-liter flat-six producing 345 hp and 287 lb-ft of torque, while the 4S features a 3.8-liter that sends 385 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque through the new all-wheel-drive components.

Both come standard with a traditional six-speed manual and can also be had with Porsche’s new PDK (for Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe) seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The 4 and 4S get all of the visual changes that are applied to the rear-wheel-drive cars – bi-xenon headlamps, LED daytime running lights and taillights – with one notable extra at the back. In addition to the rear-haunch widening that accompanies the cars, a reflective strip has been added between the taillights. The all-wheel-drive 911 will now be identifiable from a distance, even at night. Also like the rear-drive cars, the 4 and 4S get an updated interior with the new Porsche Communication Management system as its centerpiece. The new head unit is a touch screen affair and will manage its communications with Bluetooth, USB, and an iPod interface.”

This new edition is something to tantalize your eyes and wows. The boster is just an improved version from the traditional spyder ones. This design was showed at Detroit as an imprint of the porsche roadster.

However, porshce has a lot to say about their kid “was a direct expression of the original mid-engine Porsche roadster, the legendary 550 Spyder. In the mid-1950s, the Porsche 550 practically rewrote the rules of high performance, becoming one of the most successful racing cars of its time.

It didn’t have the biggest engine, nor was it the most costly sports car of its era. What it had was innovation, pure and simple. The idea of locating a compact, freerevving engine midship gave the Porsche a nimbleness no sports car had ever possessed. The Spyder didn’t have to outmuscle its competitors. It could outbrake, outmaneuver and outsmart them.

The Boxster shares this boldly intelligent approach to sports car design. Within an open-top, twoseater layout sits a mid-mounted, flat-six boxer engine, its low center of gravity helping to instill driving confidence through the corners.” source: www.porsche.com

Porsche’s finance chief Holger Härter has revealed that management at the carmaker’s Stuttgart headquarters is considering developing a new entry-level model together with Volkswagen, and that a formal proposal will be submitted within weeks. The proposal is being undertaken in conjunction with the finance arm of VW, and according to Härter both companies “will probably decide on this model this year.”

Speculation as to what this new entry-level model will entail has been circulating for months, with conflicting reports hinting everything from a sporty hatch to a compact SUV. While the baby SUV has been denied by officials on a number of occasions, Porsche still has a number of options up its sleeve, reports German newspaper Handelsblatt.

Last year, we reported that Porsche was considering a sports hatch to rival the likes of the BMW 1-series and the Audi S3, and recently there has been talk that Porsche, along with Volkswagen and Audi, could build a new mid-engine sports car to slot below the current Boxster and Cayman lines. Volkswagen is expected to show a concept version of its model at next month’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

Finally, a new front-engined successor to the 928 could be on the cards. With the development of the Panamera almost complete, engineers could easily launch a shortened version of the car with a graceful GT body.

While Porsche has a variety of segments in which to concentrate its efforts, the choice must finally be approved by both VW and Porsche. However, with the expected merger of the two companies, executives now have a minefield to navigate in deciding upon which models to develop – a decision that will be made even more difficult by inter-company politics.

This computer generated rendering gives a good indication as to what a sporty Porsche hatchback could look like but without any official confirmation it remains purely speculative.

With the recent announcement by Volkswagen chairman Martin Winterkorn that VW will unveil a sports car concept at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, it appears that the German automaker has once again resurrected its plan to build an affordable midengine coupe and roadster.

But even bigger news could be coming from VW’s new masters, er, partners at Porsche. Inside sources say that VW’s majority shareholder is said to have shown strong interest in the same project — opening the door for a possible revival of the 914.

The original 914 — Motor Trend’s Import Car of the Year in 1970 — was sold in the U.S. from 1969 to 1976, and was a collaborative effort between Volkswagen and Porsche. The guiding force behind the 914 project at the time was none other than Dr. Ferdinand Piech, chairman of the board of the VW Group and a key player in the much-troubled Porsche takeover of VW.

According to reports, the Volkswagen model will borrow heavily from VW’s vast parts bin in order to keep development costs low. The new VW coupe and roadster have been described as cars designed to be stylish and lightweight but, at the same time, offering sporty performance in combination with all important fuel economy.

Based on a midengine, rear-wheel-drive layout, two four-cylinder powerplants are said to be under consideration: a 170-horsepower version of the 1.4L twincharger TSI gasoline mill, and a new 125-hp, 1.6L TDI common-rail diesel engine, both mated to VW’s new seven-speed DSG gearbox. The model could possibly be assembled in Germany by VW’s longtime partner Karmann, also another key player in the original 914’s production.

The new car is expected to be less than 2200 lbs and VW is reportedly inquiring with fellow VW Group member Audi about aluminum space frame construction. The collaboration could also mean that a much rumored Audi R4 version could also be potentially on the horizon.

The VW project is resurfacing for the fifth time in five years but insiders are expressing optimism that the car will finally make it into production this go round. Depending on the public’s acceptance of the L.A. show concept, the new car could be in showrooms by as early as 2011.

As for the Porsche model, any 914 would almost certainly have one of the automaker’s flat sixes on board, with the 2.7-liter base engine from the Boxster being the most likely candidate. Rumors have also been circulating recently about the possibility of Porsche returning to four cylinder power, with the 914 being an extremely logical candidate for an engine smaller than six cylinders. The original four cylinder 914 was more popular than the six.

Porsche has continued to expand from its 911 base with the Cayenne and the coming Panamera, and the addition of a model priced below the Boxster could be just what the Dr. (Piech) orders.

Official Press Release:

Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is honouring the sporting success of the very popular Cayenne model series through the introduction of a new, special model, the Cayenne S Transsyberia entering the market in early 2009.

The term “Transsyberia” stands for the intercontinental rally from Moscow to the Mongolian Capital of Ulan Bator about 7,200 kilometres (4,460 miles) away. In 2006 a Porsche Cayenne for the first time won this highly demanding orientation and off-road rally. Then, entering the competition model for the Transsyberia Rally in 2007, Porsche again proved the outstanding competitiveness of a production-based Cayenne S in heavy terrain, finishing the rally first, second and third. And now, just a few weeks ago, the rally vehicle optimised to an even higher standard not only scored its third overall victory in the Transsyberia Rally, but even clinched all leading positions from 1 – 6.

Motivated by this outstanding series of success, Porsche is now for the first time presenting the new Cayenne S Transsyberia for road and off-road use at the Paris Motor Show (4 – 19 October 2008). Like the extra-robust rally model, the road-going version is also based on the Cayenne S with its 4.8-litre V8 naturally-aspirated power unit featuring highly economical and efficient Direct Fuel Injection. The big difference, however, is that the new Transsyberia comes with the high-performance power unit carried over from the Cayenne GTS, developing 405 bhp (298 kW) at 6,500 rpm and maximum torque of 500 Newton-metres (369 lb-ft) at 3,500 rpm.

In conjunction with the final drive likewise carried over from the GTS but shortened by 15 per cent to 4.1:1, the Cayenne S Transsyberia offers an even higher level of performance. With the six-speed manual gearbox featured as standard, acceleration to 100 km/h comes in just 6.1 seconds, another 0.5 seconds faster than the Cayenne S.

The modifications of the drivetrain have an even greater effect on the vehicle’s acceleration in gears of particular significance under everyday driving conditions and in racing: The Cayenne S Transsyberia with manual gearbox completes the interim sprint from 80 – 120 km/h in fifth gear in 6.6 seconds, a substantial two seconds faster than the Cayenne S. In its top speed, in turn, the Cayenne S Transsyberia is just as fast as the GTS, reaching a maximum of 253 km/h or 158 mph. And it almost goes without saying that six-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission is available as an option.

The sporting qualities of the Cayenne S Transsyberia come out clearly through both the looks and the sound of this outstanding vehicle, the sports exhaust with two dual tailpipes featured as standard ensuring a truly muscular and dynamic impression.

Motorsport design based on the rally vehicles provides additional rally flair, with no less than four attractive colour concepts for the enthusiast: Apart from the rally combinations Black/Orange and Crystal Silver Metallic/Orange, the customer also has the choice of the more discreet colour combinations Black/Meteor Grey Metallic and Meteor Grey Metallic/Crystal Silver Metallic.

With the exception of the Meteor Grey Metallic/Crystal Silver Metallic colour combination, the 18-inch Cayenne S II wheels come in each case in a contrasting colour, as do the side plates on the air intake grid, the “Cayenne S Transsyberia” model designation applied as a no-cost option at the side, the exterior mirror housings and the upper part of the extended roof spoiler with its double wing profile fixed in position. The offroad roof headlights so characteristic of the competition model are likewise available as a no-cost option and are placed in the vehicle upon delivery, since in Germany, at least, such headlights on the roof are not homologated for use on public roads.

The Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia comes as standard with air suspension including PASM Porsche Active Suspension Management for electronic adjustment of the damper system: As a function of driving conditions and the driver’s personal style of motoring, PASM actively and continuously adjusts damper forces, also reducing body dive in the process.

Self-levelling ensures consistent ride height at all times, while at the same time enabling the driver to vary ground clearance as a function of current requirements. PTM Porsche Traction Management distributes engine torque actively, depending on driving conditions, between the front and rear axle. In the basic mode 62 per cent of the engine’s power goes to the rear wheels, 38 per cent to the front.

A fully controlled longitudinal lock varies the distribution of drive power as a function of driving conditions and may be locked 100 per cent if necessary. As soon as the driver activates the low-gear ratio likewise featured as standard, the vehicle automatically switches to the offroad mode on ABS and the automatic brake differential, and sets the air suspension to offroad ground clearance.

The optional Offroad Technology Package enhances the superior offroad qualities of the Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia featured as standard from the start to an even higher level by means of a differential lock on the rear axle activated by the driver when required and controlled electronically. Other special features are side-sill protection with integrated skid plates, reinforced engine protection at the bottom, and additional protection of the fuel tank and rear axle as well as a second towing hook/opening.

The occupants riding in the Cayenne S Transsyberia enjoy a truly sporting and exclusive interior. Ornamental trim on the dashboard support and the doors, on the instruments and dials, the belts and foot mat surrounds comes in each case in the contrasting colour chosen for the exterior. The steering wheel rim, in turn, is padded and finished in alcantara. And as an homage to motorsport, the steering wheel additionally features a 12 o’clock mark in one of the contrasting colours.

Last but certainly not least, alcantara is also used on further surfaces and components within the interior of the Cayenne S Transsyberia.

The new Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia retails in the German market at Euro 77,558.- including 19 per cent value-added tax. Prices in other markets vary, also according to national specifications. Deliveries to dealers will start in January 2009.

Revo Technik is proud to announce that it is the first company worldwide to offer OBD port flashed and switchable performance software for the MED17 engine control units in the new VAG model range.

This is the latest generation of Engine Control Units from Bosch for Direct Injection petrol engines. These ECUs use the more advanced TriCore processor from Infineon. MED17 is a new architecture, and the latest in technology.

Revo Technik has been working with MED17 for over a year now and everyone at Revo Technik is thrilled with the results from the fine tuning of their 1.4TSi (140 bhp) turbocharged and supercharged VW Golf and 1.8TFSi turbocharged Audi A3 that has been completed over recent months.

As Revo Technik’s Director of Engineering, Todd Williams, explains; “This is a fantastic achievement and it exemplifies the talents and abilities of the Revo Technik team. Unlike many other performance software companies, Revo Technik has the ability to develop its own tools and technology in-house. This allows us to provide the very best performance products on the most recent VAG vehicles. The new Revo Technik performance software for the MED17 ECU has initially been developed for these two new engines, with outstanding results!”

The new Revo Technik performance software for the MED17 ECU’s works with all of the standard features of the factory ECU including OBD port reflashing and Digital Signature code protection. The ECU is not removed from the vehicle, opened, or physically modified in any way. “We are particularly pleased that the new software is fully switchable between stock and performance modes, working with both our Select and Select Plus switches” adds Williams.
“With its supercharger and turbo, the 1.4TSi engine provided a greater challenge to achieve the ultimate blend of performance and drivability from the software. As with all Revo Technik performance software, the tuning has been focussed on smoothness and driveability. The supercharger responds instantly in the bottom half of the rev range, and above 4000 rpm, its all turbo, it just keeps going, pulling hard to red line. With its close ratio 6 speed gear box the car just flies, it feels very fast.”

null

The 1.4 TSi is now running over 205 bhp with Revo Technik software, it’s a massive gain. The car is flexible and eager, with a responsive mid range and a lot of power over 4,500 rpm, it really shines in the top rev ranges and feels very strong. Also, this 1.4 TSi (140) now has as much torque as the stock 1.8TFSi!

The new 1.8TFSi engine (sister engine to the new ’08 2.0TSi/TFSi) is nothing like the old 1.8T. It’s a new engine with the new engine management system, MED17. Yet again, the Revo Technik performance software has taken a VAG engine to a new dimension. The torque at 3-4000rpm is incredible, very similar to the 2.0TDi with Revo Technik software! Peak power is at 5,700 rpm and its still over 200 bhp at 6,800 rpm; in fact it’s over 200bhp from 4000rpm to red line.

“It’s so smooth, and really driveable, you can do what you want, in any gear you want. It’s as good as a torquey Diesel below 4K, and every bit a performance turbocharged petrol above 4K.” adds Williams.

Both of these Revo Technik development cars have been transformed. The team has been striving for the ultimate in tuning and the hours they have spent working with these cars on the dyno and on the road has delivered an excellence in performance that is unrivalled for this latest generation of engines. “We’re excited, this is fantastic performance that we have delivered out of these cars and we’re already onto the new 2.0TSi/2.0TFSi and starting to see great results.”

“We have achieved two significant milestones, which has taken a huge effort from the Revo Technik team. Our focus now is to make available all the ECU variants for the 1.4TSi, the 1.8TFSi and the new 2.0TSi/2.0TFSi.”

So if we’ve sparked your interest, contact your local Revo Technik dealer and they will determine your ECU number, and it won’t be long before you too can … go play …

For further information please refer to the dynographs for the two vehicles or our website www.revotechnik.com or contact your local Revo Technik Dealer.
